Careers in Sustainable Energy is part of an annual series of University of Strathclyde Careers Service events to help you explore new career ideas and hear from industry professionals who share their real-life experience of a role.
At this session you’ll hear from a panel of professionals working in a variety of roles in the Sustainable Energy sector, to find out what their job is really like and how they got their career started.
Speakers:
Rebecca O'Toole - Energy and Sustainability Specialist, Heineken
‘Energy and Sustainability Specialist’ within Heineken UK, specifically at the Tadcaster Brewery.
I graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2020 with a Postgraduate Masters in Business and Management, which followed my Bachelors in Chemical Engineering.
Got onto the Heineken Future Leaders Graduate Scheme (2 years) and then secured the newly formed role of Energy and Sustainability Specialist.
Brewing and Packaging over 3 million hectolitres of beer is very energy intensive so my role is to actively monitor energy and water consumption, identify and manage projects to reduce these consumptions, identify new technologies to help with this and journey to Net Zero, work with other Heineken breweries around the world in developing ‘Good Practices’ and helping us meet our Sustainability Targets.
Billy Robertson, Business Development Manager - EMTEC
I am a Business Development Manager at Emtec Energy. In order to identify and cultivate new business opportunities, I engage with organisations across the UK aiming to provide tailored commercial solar solutions that align with Emtec Energy's offerings. With one year of experience, transitioning from a graduate role to my current position, I hope to bring a unique perspective on building a career in the sustainable energy industry.
